Product and advantage: It is important to Bright Kids Uganda to develop projects that will provide an income, ensure food security and teach the children.  The Poultry Project is one example.  Bright Kids Uganda hopes to increase the income that is directed towards its mission through the implementation of a Poultry Project on Bright Kids Uganda land. To begin the Poultry Project, Bright Kids Uganda requires funds to purchase 300 chicks, immunizations, vitamins, and feed.  Bright Kids already possesses the necessary shelter and equipment for caring for the chickens.  Accounting for possible deaths of chicks during the time from arrival to sale and those chickens kept for consumption by the orphanage, the project would allow Bright Kids to sell an average of 270 chickens at market price every 2 months.  A portion of the funds would be used to purchase additional chicks to be raised and resold.  This project is meant to provide food, as well as funds for purchasing additional food items, school supplies, and other required materials for the children of Bright Kids Uganda.  Also, the manure produced by the chickens will be used to fertilize Bright Kids Uganda’s agricultural fields, which will increase yields. A supplementary benefit of the Poultry Project will provide the children with agricultural skills.

Project Goals: The goal of the Poultry Project is to:

• Provide agriculture based educational center for the children.

Financial Information: In order to launch the Poultry Project, Bright Kids Uganda will need the funds to cover the purchasing cost of 300 chicks and the immunizations (given 2 days & 2 weeks per chick), vitamins (given 1^st week after arrival), and feed required for their care.
